Research area

He is interested in the junction between materiality, machines and their relationship to architectural design and deconstruction. How can purpose-built machines and robotic tools enable circularity in architecture? These interests include the automation of dissassembly and the intelligent reuse of salvaged materials in circular building systems.

Zain completed a Master of Science in Computational Design and Mechanical Engineering at MIT in 2023, with a thesis about metal additive manufacturing entitled “Liquid Metal Printing”. He received his Master of Architecture from MIT in 2018 where he continued as a teaching fellow and technical instructor supporting students in digital fabrication, robotics and precision machining. Zain has presented at conferences in computer aided design and digital fabrication and realized numerous installations with research labs and design practices at MIT, he was a Quarra Matter Fellow in 2017, and has worked for several professional practices in Toronto, New York, and Boston.
